Preparation
Before the auditor visits your venue, you'll be asked to complete a self-assessment. This includes submitting a number of essential documents, such as your insurance certificates, permits and an overview of your meeting and event spaces. The auditor reviews these documents in advance, allowing the on-site visit to focus on your venue itself rather than the supporting paperwork.
Site visit
The auditor will then visit your venue to carry out the inspection. Although the assessment is based on more than 380 assessment criteria, there's no need to worry—it's far more than simply ticking boxes. Our auditors prefer to have an open conversation with you about your venue, covering everything from its unique strengths and operational challenges to the chef's latest culinary creations. During the visit, the auditor also performs a number of technical checks on site.

Passed the assessment?
After the inspection, the auditor records all findings in the YOIN dashboard, including strengths, recommendations and opportunities for improvement. Each section of the assessment carries its own weighting. To ensure complete independence, these weightings are not disclosed to the auditors. Venues achieving an overall score of 80% or higher are awarded the YOIN excellent meeting place quality label.
Your results
Your assessment results are presented in a transparent online dashboard, where your audit history is stored and benchmark data is available. This allows you to compare your current performance with your own previous results—for example, from two years ago—as well as with other YOIN-certified venues or venues within your province.
Didn't reach 80%?
If your overall score falls just short of the 80% threshold, the auditor will explain which improvements are needed and how much opportunity you have to implement these before a follow-up assessment.
